Special and Inclusive Education (National Award for Special Educational Needs Co-ordinators)

The National Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators (SENCos) is a level 7, 60 credit award which is a legal requirement for SENCos new to post since 2009 in maintained mainstream schools, nurseries, academies, free schools and pupil referral units (PRUs). All schools have a legal duty to appoint a Fully Qualified teacher as their SENCo. The programme consists of two 30 credit modules. Students who complete the Post Graduate Certificate (NASC) can progress to the second year of the full MA in SEN Inclusion.

Assessment methods

Your tutors will use a variety of teaching methods, which may include lectures, seminars, problem-based workshops, case discussions, practical activities, group work and tutorials. Teaching is backed up by a well-designed support system that will underpin your learning journey. You will have access to a Guidance Tutor with whom you can discuss any academic issues. Extensive feedback from both tutors and peers is built into the course.
