Preventative Conservation

This course is designed to prepare students for practice as preventative conservators, environmental managers or managers of collections of movable cultural heritage.

Entry requirements

1st degree in art history, archaeology, fine art, chemistry, physics, engineering or computing, or equivalent working experience in collections care; for those already involved in collections care comparable working experience could be considered; other requirements are good written and spoken English, a computer, a digital camera. English language requirements: IELTS 6.5, TOEFL (575 paper-based, 90 internet-based) or equivalent.

Course modules

Modules include: conservation science; work placed learning; collections care; preventive conservation dissertation; conservation cleaning.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by: assignments, portfolios, group tasks, the analysis and evaluation of case studies, examination and presentations.
