Safety, Health and Environmental Management

This programme is designed to provide the underpinning knowledge and skills for those interested in a career in the growing and increasingly integrated fields of Safety, Health and Environmental Management. The programme is also available in part time mode for those working in related fields who would like to further develop their skills or gain professional accreditation. With risk management as an underpinning theme, this programme explores approaches to the management of legal and wider sustainability challenges collectively faced by organisations in the 21st Century. Following the taught component, which makes up the Postgraduate Diploma, there is an opportunity to undertake a research or work based project to attain a full Master�s award. Accreditation of the programme is being sought from widely recognised professional bodies with the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA) for the environmental components and the Institute of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH) for the occupational health and safety components. In addition to gaining the University award, the student will be able to proceed to gain recognition of professional competency from the relevant organisation(s).

Course modules

Areas of study include: Environmental protection and health; risk management; law and compliance; environmental management in practice; managing for health and safety; research methods and project management; research or work based dissertation.
