Successful completion of this course leads to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS), subject to satisfactory performance in skills tests; Northumbria University has a strong ethos of working with partners in the artistic community to give trainee teachers a strong flavour of the opportunities available to support them during and beyond studying for a PGCE; partner schools located throughout this large region are diverse, with enthusiastic and highly professional staff.
2.1 Honours degree or equivalent qualification, containing a significant art element of appropriate level and scope; plus GCSE grade C (or equivalent) in English language and mathematics; relevant degrees might include; fine arts; arts; art and design; art and textile design; fashion design; historical and critical studies, etc; competence in information and communication technology is essential and some relevant experience with young people; normally for students whose 1st language is not English evidence of having reached the equivalent of IELTS 6.5, TOEFL (575 paper-based, 90 internet-based), is required before entry; the University also accepts many other English language qualifications.
