Post-Compulsory Education and Training

This is a programme for those working in the post compulsory sector (work-based learning, education community and voluntary sector, wider workforce), who are either teaching literacy or embedding literacy into their teaching. The course develops students understanding of educational policy and procedures, teaching and learning theory and practice and planning, assessment and evaluation procedures with literacy specific emphasis. The programme reflects the national structure, which identifies 2 exit points. The 1st is the successful completion of the 1st module, which confers threshold status, as required by LLUK. The 2nd is the successful completion of the programme.

Entry requirements

A 1st degree, regular access to a group of learners and the appropriate qualification in the subject area, i.e. literacy, at a minimum of Level 3. Applicants must also have access to 75 hours reflective teaching practice for each year of the programme and the ability to communicate clearly in spoken and written English, the ability to demonstrate the appropriate levels of numeracy and ICT and the ability to pass the entry test to demonstrate their personal literacy skills at L3.

Modules include: introduction to teaching and learning; socio cultural impacts on learning and assessment; inclusive teaching and learning; specialist teaching and learning; curriculum design and evaluation; continuing professional development.
