Bar Professional Training Course

This course develops the main skills used by practising barristers: advocacy, drafting, opinion writing and conference skills. Students study the resolution of disputes out of court and 2 specialist options studied in term 2.

Entry requirements

A 2.2 Honours degree in law or a pass in common professional examination. English language requirements are IELTS 7.5 (with a minimum of 6.5 in each element) or TOEFL equivalent.

Course modules

Modules: criminal litigation, evidence and sentencing; civil litigation, evidence and remedies; civil advocacy; advocacy; conferencing; opinion writing; drafting; ReDoC; professional ethics 2.

Sponsorship information

Northumbria Law School offers a number of BPTC scholarships with a total value of £45,000. They are open to all students applying for the full-time, part-time or LLM in Bar Practice. Students must have selected Northumbria as either their first, second or third choice and have applied via BPTC Online by the January deadline.
