Law (Graduate Diploma in Law/Common Professional Examination)

This programme provides the academic stage of legal education for non-law graduates who intend to become solicitors or barristers. On successful completion of this course students are then qualified to proceed to the vocational stage of training, the Legal Practice Course or Bar Professional Training Course. At the beginning of the programme students are required to study the English Legal System by means of a pre-attendance package and induction programme.

Entry requirements

Undergraduate degree in any subject from a UK or Republic of Ireland higher education institution or a certificate or academic standing from the Law Society or the Bar Council; applicants who have previously studied 4 or more of the foundation subjects may obtain an exemption from those subjects (applications for exemption should be made to the Solicitors Regulation Authority or the Bar Standards Board); applicants whose 1st language is not English should have studied at undergraduate level in English, or have a British Council International English Language Testing System (IELTS) score of 6.5 (or above) or a Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) score of 575 (or above), or equivalent.
