The School of Architecture, Design and the Built Environment is based at Nottingham Trent University’s (NTU) City Campus, in the heart of Nottingham. With a strong reputation for producing outstanding graduates ready for industry, the School offers professionally-accredited courses across five key subject areas: architectural design; civil engineering, construction and surveying, product design; and property management and development.

Our industry-focused courses combine theory, expert insights and live project experience, as well as professional accreditation. Our courses introduce you to, and develop your knowledge of, the dynamic professions and industries that form today’s built and designed environment. All include key themes such as internationalisation, global citizenship and sustainability, and utilise our extensive resources and expertise across the entire sector. As a postgraduate student, we understand that you might have other commitments to consider. Our courses offer flexible learning, including part-time, distance learning, online learning, and continuing professional development study routes.

With a strong profile and international reputation, our research seeks innovative solutions to real-life problems with direct relevance to the needs of society, industry and commerce across the globe; taking an interdisciplinary approach aligned to key strategic government agendas.
Our academics are cited in international publications and journals for their world-class research. They advise on architectural heritage management and design for the future; analyse global real-estate markets; test and integrate onsite visualisation techniques into Building Information Modelling (BIM) for construction projects; find new solutions to renewable energy use and sustainable consumption; advise on team project management; and work with surgeons, clinicians and healthcare companies across the world to develop advanced medical products.
At NTU, we provide first-class learning facilities for our students. You’ll have access to our industry-standard facilities and workshops, which are equipped with the latest technologies and software. We offer structural testing and extensive laboratories in concrete, soils, materials, and hydraulics. Our Creative and Virtual Technologies Lab is equipped with cutting-edge equipment, including visualisation technologies (augmented reality, virtual reality); human computer interaction systems; and BIM / 3D modelling and rendering software. We also have various 3D printers, model-making workshops; and a heliodon, which demonstrates the movement of the sun.
You’ll be supported throughout your studies by our team of expert technical staff, who run our very well-equipped laboratories, workshops and survey equipment store. The knowledge and expertise of our technicians are invaluable to your learning. Each have their own specialist areas, including concrete testing, surveying, wood and metalworking, model making, and laser cutting, and are on-hand to support you through practical elements of study, including with modular and project work.
