Structural Engineering with Management
Designed for students aspiring to senior management positions within the structural engineering field, this course focuses on applying engineering principles in structural engineering and in management; students have the opportunity to increase individual potential to become a senior manager in the structural engineering field; gain advanced knowledge in the design, construction and renovation of structures; be taught in part by industry professionals and visiting experts.
Full time: research methods; contemporary themes in structural engineering; managing construction projects; finite element analysis; advanced structural analysis; construction heath and safety; analysis and design of surface structures; procurement strategy and risk management; research project/dissertation. Part time (year 1): research methods; contemporary themes in structural engineering; managing construction projects; finite element analysis. Part time (year 2): advanced structural analysis; construction heath and safety; analysis and design of surface structures; procurement strategy and risk management; research project/dissertation.
Module assessment include exams; students also undertake the following coursework: preliminary questions: a set of short answer questions designed to reinforce the pre reading of the learning materials; learning portfolios to evidence learning which would typically include: a study log; answers to self assessment questions and/or small notes and critical reviews, identified queries to be raised with lecturers; assignments: including essays, case studies, reports and designs.
