Primary: School-Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT)

Inspiring Leaders Teacher Training (ILTT) are a School Centred Initial Teacher Training (SCITT) programme who work in partnership with Nottingham Institute of Education, at Nottingham Trent University. Together we have developed an exciting and innovative new course for potential trainee teachers.

ILTT currently work with two forward thinking and innovative Teaching School Alliances (TSAs) to provide the training and knowledge you need to become an outstanding teacher which will enable you to deliver an outstanding education to children:

ILTT work with Candleby Lane TSA who have a partnership of over 50 primary schools across Nottinghamshire where you could be placed for your training year. All partnership schools are recognised for their experience in supporting trainee teachers and are quality assured by ILTT to ensure they provide you with the best possible training experience.

By choosing to work with ILTT you can specialise in either a general primary (5 – 11 years) or Primary Early Years (3 - 7 years) course.

Both courses offer you the opportunity to undertake Masters level study, assessment and accreditation whilst being predominantly based in the classroom. ILTT work with Nottingham Trent University to deliver your teacher training. The course includes a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) qualification and 60 Masters level credits which you could use to achieve an MA in Education after you graduate.

Learning is designed to draw upon and extend the training you receive in school. You can access materials and continually develop your understanding of practice throughout the year, not just for the days that you are at the University.

Entry requirements

You will need:

  • a good UK honours degree or equivalent, at a minimum 2.1 which can be related to the Primary National Curriculum. Strong candidates with a 2.2 will be considered;
  • GCSE English, Mathematics and Science at minimum grade 4 or equivalent. We accept the GCSE equivalency taken via equivalencytesting.com. These must have been gained prior to application.
  • Disclosure and Barring Service and Prohibition Order checks passed prior to enrolling;

Course modules

Throughout the year you will be given the opportunity to learn and develop through a blend of experiences, all of which support and further you towards becoming a teacher.

Trainees will examine current theory, with each module containing teaching, assessment and independent work, all of which are directly relevant to the primary classroom. School placements will ensure the knowledge and skills acquired during the ILTT and University based training are strongly anchored in practice. The intended outcome for the programme is that every trainee has the opportunity to complete the course with a Post Graduate Certificate of Education (PGCE) and Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
