This course is ideal for non construction or real estate graduates and provides Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) accreditation leading to Chartered Surveyor status and exciting and lucrative employment opportunities; each course provides broad based insights into the industries and then allows students to develop a specialism and expertise in their chosen field of study through course specific modules. This course has a development, planning and valuation focus, making it particularly appropriate to applicants wishing to gain an in depth knowledge into these aspects of the property and construction business.

Entry requirements

A 2.2 Honours degree minimum (or equivalent) UK honours degree, or equivalent, in a subject unrelated, or partially related, to real estate and construction. Mature applicants with non-standard qualifications and relevant work experience are welcomed. These will be considered on an individual basis. Students wishing to enter the course from overseas should be able to demonstrate English language proficiency to the level IELTS 6.5, TOEFL (paper) 560 with a written score of 5.0 or TOEFL (IBT) 83 with a written score of 24; language tuition and support in English is available.

Course modules

Full time (year 1): law and ethics; property and construction economics; research methods and study skills; construction, investment and planning; professional practice; development practice; planning practice; valuation appraisal; postgraduate dissertation / consultancy project / internship. Part time (year 1): research methods and study skills; construction, investment and planning; development practice; planning practice; postgraduate dissertation / consultancy project / internship (continued in year 2). Part time (year 2): law and ethics; property and construction economics; professional practice; valuation appraisal; postgraduate dissertation / consultancy project / internship (continued from year 1).

Assessment methods

Project work (individual and group based); independent written assignments and reports; research proposal and dissertation; seen and unseen written tests and examinations; oral presentations; poster presentations.
