Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages
A UK Honours degree (minimum 2.2) or equivalent. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5.
This course is divided into modules, which are worth a number of credit points, and are separately taught and assessed. To get your degree you have to pass all modules, and collect 180 credit points. You will study the following core modules: Exploring English Language Learning and Teaching; Describing English Language; Materials and Assessment in Language Teaching; Research Methods; Dissertation. You will also choose one of the following optional modules (optional module availability is subject to demand): Blended Learning and Computer-Assisted Language Learning (CALL): Multimedia Applications in Language Learning; English for Professional Purposes; Materials Development; Teaching English to Young Learners; Teaching Speaking, Listening; Teaching Reading and Writing; English for Academic Purposes; Intercultural Communication.
Students submit a 15,000-word piece of independent work that builds upon the practical, theoretical and research skills of the course.
