Studying specialist modules in investment banking alongside core economics gives the course a practical focus and begins to shape skills around this specialist field. Students will learn how to assess investment potential, understand world markets and manage complex portfolios. Students can add a year's work placement, making the Master's a 2 year course.

Entry requirements

An undergraduate degree equivalent to a UK undergraduate Honours degree (2.2 or above) in a business or management-related subject; applicants need to have studied economics to at least undergraduate level 2 and quantitative methods including statistical theory to at least undergraduate level 1; applicants will be required to demonstrate a commitment to the subject they wish to study and should demonstrate how their chosen programme of study will benefit them in their future career; 1 academic or vocational reference is required. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 with minimum of 5.5 in each component.

Course modules

Semester 1 modules: applying economic theory; using quantitative data in economic analysis; contemporary issues in economics. Semester 2 modules: valuation of investment products; derivatives markets; investment and portfolio management. Semester 3: You'll take one of the following major project: consultancy experience project; internship experience project; business research project; global experience project. All year modules: academic, professional and career development (APCD).

Assessment methods

Types of assessment will range from examinations to group presentations including essays, reports, financial analyses, literature reviews and research-based projects. The interactive nature of the taught sessions offers opportunities to gain feedback on performance before being formally assessed and increasing use is made of eLearning to further support the feedback process.
