Molecular Microbiology

This course aims to provide students with a strong grounding in microbial genetics and molecular biology, through the exploration of microbial structure, physiology, and behaviour at the molecular level.

Entry requirements

MRes

A UK Honours degree (minimum 2.1) or higher qualification in a Biological or Computing subject, plus laboratory experience gained through employment or an undergraduate research project. Appropriate experience or other relevant qualifications will also be considered. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5.

MSc

A UK Honours degree (minimum 2.2) or higher qualification in a Biological or equivalent subject, plus laboratory experience gained through employment or an undergraduate research project. Appropriate experience or other relevant qualifications will also be considered. Applicants whose 1st language is not English should have an IELTS score of 6.5.

Core modules: Research Methods and Bioethics (20 credit points); Research Project (120 credit points); Molecular Microbiology (20 credit points). Optional modules: Microbial Diagnostics (20 credit points); Medical Microbiology (20 credit points).

MSc

Research methods and bioethics, molecular microbiology, medical microbiology, business and enterprise, microbial diagnostics, techniques in macromolecular analysis, research project.

Assessment methods

Written assignments, oral presentations and poster presentations, examinations and a research project.
