Sport has become increasingly important as a business and can involve significant financial stakes. There is a growing demand for appropriately qualified sports law professionals and this course has been designed to fulfil this need.
Law graduates: a good degree in Law (minimum 2.2) or an Honours degree in another discipline PLUS either the CPE (Common Professional Examination) or GDL (Graduate Diploma in Law) conversion qualification. Non law graduates: Whilst most of our applicants have a qualification in law, applicants from other disciplines will be considered in appropriate circumstances, particularly if they have experience in the area, even if not lawyers.
Core modules: European sports law and policy; sport, intellectual property and commerce; sport, law and regulation; sport, law and the human body.
In each case modules are assessed through one piece of course work. This usually takes the form of a problem or essay style question, but will vary by module. You can submit and receive feedback on assessments over the course of each module. The dissertation is 18,000 to 20,000 words on a suitable topic of your choice and includes 1 to 1 supervision with a tutor who is an expert in that field.
Students who are in practice may obtain funding from their employer; bursaries are normally available for this course and are equivalent to up to half the UK/EU fees; the bursaries are competitive and are awarded on the basis of: Evidence of the pursuit of excellence in individual performance and/or experience outside education; a written statement indicating the anticipated academic and career benefits applicants may receive from studying this programme.
