Teaching (assessment only route)
This short course is designed for very experienced graduates with substantial successful teaching experience, who currently work as unqualified teachers. Supported by your school or college, the course allows you to demonstrate that you already meet all the Qualified Teacher Standard (QTS) standards through assessment of your current teaching.
A good UK honours degree or equivalent. GCSE English and mathematics at minimum grade C or equivalent. Relevant and recent experience of teaching in at least two schools / colleges prior to being assessed against the Teachers Standards and the ability to evidence this. Teaching experience across 2 or more consecutive age ranges. The ability to read effectively and good verbal and written communication skills in standard English Professional Skills Tests.
The Assessment Only Route to QTS allows you to demonstrate that you already meet all the Teachers Standards. It does not include any training and is only suitable if you are currently working as an unqualified teacher.
The assessment will include: a completed application form, including a personal statement and your teaching timetable, a reference from your current employing school or college, presentation of comprehensive and detailed evidence to show how you meet the Teachers Standards for QTS, observation and assessment of your teaching in a school, evidence of passing the National College for Teaching and Leadership Professional Skills tests, an enhanced disclosure clearance and appropriate medical checks.
