Nottingham Trent University
Secondary Education (Mathematics) SKE
Our Subject Knowledge Enhancement (SKE) in Mathematics courses will develop your mathematical knowledge to enable you to undertake a PGCE or School Direct Training Programme and train for a career in secondary Mathematics teaching.
This subject knowledge enhancement course is designed for graduates with a degree in a subject other than Mathematics who wish to train as secondary Mathematics teachers. The condition of entry is an offer of a place on an initial teacher training (ITT) course.
The full-time course (200 hours over seven weeks) is intended to support graduates as they develop their breadth and depth of mathematical knowledge before they begin an ITT course which would lead to Qualified Teacher Status (QTS). It is designed to support mathematical communication skills and the development of the subject knowledge required for teaching mathematics in secondary schools.
SKE courses are fully funded by the National College for Teaching and Leadership and you will receive a tax free bursary up to £200 per week for the duration of the course (subject to confirmation by NCTL).
Confirmation (by your school or course provider) that you have been accepted onto an Initial Teacher Training (ITT) course, such as PGCE or School Direct.
By being interviewed, offered a place and accepting that place on an ITT course, you are deemed to have met the entry requirements for this Subject Knowledge Enhancement course.
The curriculum is broadly based on the national programmes of study for KS3 and KS4, enabling you to teach the 11 - 16 curriculum with confidence. Some AS level material may also be covered.
