This is a taught course which typically includes seminars, lectures, tutorials and a thesis / dissertation. This course is suitable if you do not have the practical laboratory experience to conduct an MRes but you would like a research qualification. During the course you will have the opportunity to study a variety of aspects relating to your discipline of choice.
A UK Honours degree (minimum 2.2) or equivalent in a relevant biological subject; applicants with relevant employment experience or other relevant qualifications may also be considered; international students need IELTS 6.5 (with minimum of 5.5 in reading, listening, speaking and writing) or TOEFL iBT 83 (with minimum reading:18, listening:17, speaking: 20, writing: 17); other English language qualifications may be taken into consideration.
Core modules: research methods and IT; practical techniques in genomics and proteomics; research project; scientific analysis, review and presentation. Optional modules: biology of disease; molecular biology and DNA technology; cell culture and antibody technology; business and bioethics; enzyme technology and biocatalysis; pharmacology; neurobiology and neuropathology; microbial physiology and genomics.
Students undertake self-guided and formal assessments, including written assignments, tests, formal examinations and poster presentations to test an acquisition of Master's level knowledge and skills.
