Professional Practice in Career Guidance
This course provides the opportunity for those who already hold a professional qualification in career guidance or equivalent to top up their qualification to Masters level. The careers guidance pathway provides a Master's level qualification in careers guidance related to, and situated within professional practice. Individuals delivering and managing careers guidance need the skills to lead their professions in an ever changing environment, and to meet the challenges of professional service delivery in the context of shrinking public sector funding and the development of new ways of working. The careers guidance pathway will allow you to build on learning from a previous academic programme and consolidate existing knowledge from practice. The pathway will provide a route for you to progress from your Master's in professional practice to a professorial doctorate, or a PhD.
You will need a Postgraduate Diploma in career guidance or an equivalent qualification. Students will be required to demonstrate in their personal statement that they have access to a placement or workplace within which they can conduct their research or project, and that this service provider has agreed for such activities to take place.
Modules include: one-to-one interactions and allied theoretical concepts; ethics, values and reflective practice; labour market information; one-to-one career guidance interactions and allied theoretical concepts; partnership working and evidence based practice; curriculum design, group work and presentations; research methods; research dissertation or service evaluation project.
You will be assessed through a series of written assignments.
