This course is for those who have already studied economics or an equivalent subject at undergraduate level and have good quantitative skills. Study aims to provide students with an advanced understanding of microeconomics and macroeconomics; the ability to empirically investigate relationships between economic variables; the ability to conduct hypothesis testingan appreciation of the modelling techniques and analytical tools; an awareness of the most recent developments in economic theory and practice.
Normally a good 2nd Class Honours degree, or equivalent, in Economics. GCSE or O-Level English language. Students whose 1st language is not English require IELTS 6.5 overall with a minimum of 6.0 in the reading and writing components.
Compulsory modules: pre-sessional intensive maths training sessions; advanced microeconomics; advanced macroeconomics; econometrics; topics in economics; research methods; optional modules; economic growth; industrial organisation; environmental economics; independent study.
Each module is assessed individually. The programme has a balance of assessment methods using a mix of coursework and examination.
