Publishing and Language

This course is appropriate for those who wish to work in the field of international co-editions, translations, or international educational publishing. The MA consists of 4 compulsory modules and 2 elective modules plus a dissertation or major project. The PGDip consists of 4 compulsory modules and 2 elective modules.

Entry requirements

Good degree in any subject or significant industry experience is required. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a commitment to work in the publishing or communications industries. Applicants whose 1st language is not English or who have not studied for a BA in English, require IELTS 7.0.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Design and production for publishing; editorial management; marketing management; publishing and language issues; dissertation or major project. Optional modules: e-publishing; international publishing management; new product development; journals publishing; children's publishing; magazine publishing; rights management; history and culture of publishing; digital media publishing; independent study in publishing.

Assessment methods

Assessment is primarily by coursework. A limited number of class tests assess skills in applying marketing terms and in proof reading.
