This course is intended for those who have a life science background and wish to develop their interest and skills to enter the commercial sector and/or biotechnology research; students learn and develop skills and techniques underpinning biotechnology such as molecular biology, gene regulation and expression, protein and antibody technology, drug discovery and product development, cell culture and business.
2nd Class Honours degree in a related scientific subject from a recognised institution of higher education; applicants who do not have these academic qualifications could still be offered a place on the course if they can show evidence of the potential to succeed based on professional and/or related experiences; applicants whose 1st language is not English: IELTS score of 6.5 in ALL skills (i.e. reading, writing, speaking and listening) or TOEFL score of 90 (internet-based).
Modules include: Business for the biosciences (20 level 7 credits); molecular biology (20 level 7 credits); product development in biotechnology (20 level 7 credits); career development and research skills (20 level 7 credits); independent study (20 level 7 credits); advanced fluorescence technology (20 level 7 credits); genome science (20 level 7 credits); topics in biotechnology (20 level 7 credits); research project (60 level 7 credits).
Assessments are via assignments, presentations and written reports.
