Nursing Studies (Leadership in Clinical Practice)

This exciting and dynamic MSc in Nursing Studies (Clinical Leadership in Practice) is offered as an online distance learning or on-campus course. It is open to UK, EU and international nursing professionals who wish to undertake advanced postgraduate study with a premier academic institution that has close links with nationally and internationally recognised clinical settings and expert practitioners. The course can be taken either full-time over 12 months or part-time over three years.

Entry requirements

A qualified nurse (equivalent to UK registered nurse) with up-to-date and current registration within country of origin and be employed within current clinical nursing practice. Applicants must have a minimum of 1 year's post-registration experience either in the UK or in their home country. Normally hold a UK 1st degree or equivalent overseas degree from a reputable institution. If applicants do not hold a 1st degree or equivalent, they will be required to submit an assignment that is negotiated with the course leader and which will be taken into account as part of the application. Have reliable access to the internet, preferably through a broadband connection. Be able to supply an academic reference that supports their potential to study at postgraduate level. This cannot be supplied by an employer unless it is from an educational institution. Good IT skills and be proficient in the use of the internet and online communication. Applicants whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5-7.0 overall, or equivalent.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Mastering professional practice; evidence-based practice; health promotion; leadership; advanced research design; dissertation. Optional modules: infection prevention and control; work-based learning; independent study; creating frameworks for learning.

Assessment methods

Assessments include essays, critical reviews, case studies and virtual presentations. MSc students also write a dissertation on a topic of their choice.
