Psychology (qualifying certificate)
The course is designed to enable students with no previous experience of psychology in higher education to acquire sufficient knowledge and skills to study at FHEQ level 5/6 (2nd or 3rd year of full-time study) in a UK university. The certificate is offered as an entry qualification for the MSc Psychology which is needed for Graduate Basis for Chartered membership to the British Psychological Society, but it also meets the entry requirements for other universities' psychology conversion courses.
Applicants require a university degree in any discipline. Applicants require English as a 1st language, or GCSE or O level English language, or an IELTS score of 7.0, or equivalent evidence of proficiency in English.
Core modules include: cognitive psychology; biological psychology; social psychology; developmental psychology; personality and individual differences. Optional modules from: foundations of cognitive psychology; cognitive psychology; foundation of biological psychology; biological psychology; foundations of social psychology; social psychology; foundations of developmental psychology; developmental psychology; personality and individual differences; learning from influential papers in psychology; psychology and contemporary issues.
Each course module is assessed individually, generally on the quality of written work. Assessment methods may include essays, formal written examinations or in-class tests.
