This course offers different pathways: Exercise rehabilitation; musculoskeletal rehabilitation; neurological rehabilitation; paediatric neurological rehabilitation and posture management pathways and different modules that can be taken on their own for example: Functional recovery from stroke; paediatric neurodisability rehabilitation; exercise prescription for neurological rehabilitation; supporting people with long term neurological conditions. The course provides an opportunity to work with practitioners from different professions, from different patient and client groups and from a variety of countries which all helps promote a diverse view of rehabilitation.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold a UK or overseas degree from a recognised institution, or an equivalent professional or other qualification, be registered as a health, exercise or social care professional, and have at least 6 months' post-qualification experience. If the candidates 1st language is not English then they must demonstrate that their level of English is appropriate for study at postgraduate level. This means applicants must have an IELTS score of 6.5-7.0 overall, or an acceptable qualification at an equivalent level.

Course modules

Modules include: Rehabilitation: application of the international classification of functioning (ICF); physiological bases to musculoskeletal and neurological rehabilitation practice; the evidence base of rehabilitation practice; rehabilitation research design and methods; functional recovery from stroke; exercise prescription for neurological conditions; paediatric neurodisability rehabilitation; supporting people with long term progressive neurological conditions; occupational therapy: new perspectives; advanced communication and supportive relationships; advanced symptom management; independent study; work-based learning; rehabilitation dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is based on coursework consisting of academic and reflective essays and case studies.

Funding may be available from the Thames Valley Strategic Health Authority for staff who are working in the area; John Henry Brookes Scholarships.
