Oxford Brookes University
This course is designed for postgraduate students who wish to obtain a master's qualification focused on a research project of particular interest to them; the research programme is devised by the student and the supervisor.
Good 1st degree (normally a 1st or 2.1) in a relevant subject area; a high level of linguistic competence in French; 2 academic references; a sample of recent academic work written in English.
Alongside some research training, students embark on a substantial piece of independent research (an Master's thesis of up to 30,000 words) guided by their supervisor in regular meetings; a shorter assessment of 5,000 words, conceived as a formative essay, precedes the dissertation in the programme; a viva voce examination is held at the end of the study period.
