International Studies (Environment)

The International Studies (Environment) masters course provides specialised training in the key theories and concepts of advanced international studies. In particular it applies these to contemporary debates on global environmental issues, culminating in autonomous learning and independent study in the form of a dissertation.

Entry requirements

A 2nd class Honours degree from a university in the UK or an equivalent qualification from countries outside the UK. The degree should be in an appropriate discipline. Applicants whose home language is not English require IELTS level 6.5 or above (or equivalent) or GSCE English language grade A-C .

Course modules

Modules include: International relations in theory and practice; global political economy; readings in social science; global politics and the environment. Research methods in the social sciences and 1 of the following: global politics and the environment; research methods in the social sciences; global governance; civil society and social movements; international development; global theory: from kant to hardt and negri; citizenship in theory and practice; gender in a global context; international energy politics; dilemmas of international; independent study; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment is conducted through a variety of assignments linked to the expected learning outcomes; assignments include essays, presentations, projects, reports and the dissertation.
