The course aims to provide applicants with professional competency and an ability to relate academic theory and knowledge to social work practice. You will study social work theories and methods of assessment and intervention, as well as reflective approaches to human needs and behaviour, current social policy and law.
A 2.2 Honours degree or above. A minimum of 12 months social care experience which can be in a voluntary setting. Applicants must pass disclosure and barring service and occupational health checks. If English is not your native language and you do not have GCSE English grade C or above you will have to achieve an IELTS or equivalent qualification at an overall average score of at least 7.0, with a score of at least 7.0 in the listening and reading sections and at least 7.0 in the writing and speaking sections. Key skills level 2 in place of GCSE English or mathematics is not acceptable.
Year 1: contemporary social work theories and issues; ethics and values for social workers; integrated practice I; professional practice; research for social work practice; social policy and law; final year: dissertation; integrated practice II.
