Surgical Care Practitioner Specialist Practice (Trauma and Orthopaedics Surgery)
Through this programme students learn core competences for surgical care practitioners, with a focus on trauma and orthopaedic surgery. Students gain the necessary skills to undertake complex surgical procedures and provide high quality patient care. Students gain invaluable professional experience and specialist knowledge, through our blend of academic and practical teaching. Students benefit from 9 weeks of taught theory and 27 weeks of direct clinical practice. Students work alongside experienced surgical consultants and take part in specific sessions run by medical professionals, aimed at refining their specialism. Students also study towards an additional industry endorsed qualification through the Intercollegiate Basic Surgical Skills course, accredited by the Royal College of Surgeons.
A relevant Honours degree with or an equivalent professional qualification. Other qualifications accompanied by substantial experience in an appropriate field may also be considered. Non-standard applications will be considered on a case by case basis. A current and live registration with either the Nursing and Midwifery Council (Part 1 or 2) or the Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC). Two years post qualifying experience in the area in which you wish to specialise in, as a surgical care practitioner. A satisfactory disclosure and barring service check (previously CRB). A satisfactory occupational health clearance.
Modules include: advanced consulting and clinical skills; research methods; surgical care practitioner specialist practice (cardiothoracic surgery, trauma surgery or orthopaedics surgery).
