Clinical Psychology

This course enables students to become competent and capable clinical psychologists. Students will receive training which emphasises psychotherapy, reflective practice, complex clinical issues and applicable research skills. This programme aims to enhance student's psychological career and enable them to become a highly reflective scientist practitioner.

Entry requirements

MClinRes

You will normally be a healthcare professional with a first degree or a related academic degree. BSc (Hons) at 2:1 or above, or European first cycle equivalent. Clinicians without a degree but with appropriate experience may be eligible to apply. Overseas students require IELTS score of 6.5 or equivalent required.

DClinPsy

You are required to have an honours degree in Psychology, a 1st or 2.1, that gives the Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership (GBC) of the British Psychological Society (BPS), or an equivalent qualification that gives GBC.
If you have a 2.2 degree and have completed a further postgraduate academic research qualification may also be considered.
Any conditional offers will subject to achieving a 2.1 or above.
Additionally, you are required to have at least one to two years' experience in relevant health settings.
You must be employable as Trainee Clinical Psychologists in the NHS.
We are looking for applicants who have an interest in learning from their life experiences, both personally and professionally.
Professional indemnity insurance is required.

Course modules

MClinRes

Core modules: Applied Quantitative Research Methods, Research Dissertation, Applying Evidence to Practice, Applied Qualitative Research Methods and Project Design for Research. Optional modules include: Injection Therapy for Health Professionals (Botulinum Toxin), Injection Therapy for Health Professionals (Corticosteroid), Neurological Rehabilitation: Sensorimotor Disorders, Rehabilitation: Cognition, Perception and Behaviour, Leadership in Action, Contemporary Issues in Leadership, Occupation as the Focus of Contemporary Practice, Systematic Review (JBI), Pathomechanics and Rehabilitation of Gait and Balance, Supported Independent Study and Advancing the Management of Long Term Conditions. Sponsorship information

Successful applicants are employed by the NHS as trainee clinical psychologists. Trainees are supported by training salaries from the South West Strategic Health Authority who also pay fees, accommodation during teaching at the University bases, and travel expenses. There will be 2 places available on the course that are not funded by the NHS for the academic year starting September 2015. We invite applications for these places from international applicants who can provide their own funding and who are eligible for overseas fees status. Trainees with home fees status are supported by a salary at NHS Band 6 from the South West Strategic Health Authority who also pay fees, accommodation during teaching at the University bases, and travel expenses.
