Psychological Research Methods

This programme enables students to gain confidence in the acquisition, analysis and use of research information. Students will develop a sophisticated understanding of psychological research, from the creation of questions they will need to ask, through to the meaningful organisation of results. The course will prime students for a research role across a range of sectors, including consultancy and government agencies, and have the foundation for future PhD work.

Entry requirements

Applicants should hold an Honours degree recognised by the British Psychological Society or qualifications that are recognised as equivalent by the society. Other qualifications may also be considered. The minimum IELTS score for acceptable English proficiency for entry is normally 6.5.

Course modules

Core modules: communication of research for psychology; evaluating complex interventions; experimental research design; project; project planning and literature search; qualitative research methods for psychology; quantitative analysis of complex clinical and behavioural data; skills and techniques in psychological research; statistical methods for experimental and clinical research. Optional modules: designing for behaviour change; foundations in clinical psychology, children and families; issues in behaviour change; issues in clinical psychology; issues in cognitive and brain science; the brain and its disorders; understanding risky behaviour.
