Art Psychotherapy (International)

The course aims to integrate learning across the theoretical, experiential and practical aspects of the training; it places the trainee at the heart of the learning process encouraging individual responsibility for learning.

Entry requirements

A UK Honours degree or equivalent in the area of the visual arts supported by a portfolio of art work in a variety of media; degrees in subjects such as psychology, social work, nursing, education etc are considered if supported by a substantial portfolio of art work; applicants must also have a minimum of 1 year's experience of work in a caring capacity or equivalent and some experience of personal art psychotherapy or psychotherapy, or experiential workshops in art therapy, psychotherapy or the creative therapies, is desirable; in the absence of a degree experience of 8-10 years are considered for entry.

Course modules

Modules include: therapeutic skills and practice; art based research; art therapy theory and practice; research methods; group work and group theory; contemporary approaches in art psychotherapy.

Assessment methods

Essays, reports, presentations.

7 students are part funded via Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS).
