Diabetes

This course is for doctors, nurses, allied health professionals and pharmacists who are involved in diabetes care; it aims to develop the scientific basis for improvement in diabetes clinical practice and public health using robust epidemological, laboratory and social science methodologies; this course prepares students to take an evidence-based approach to diabetic care and allows them to specialise in an area of their choice; it has been developed with clinical colleagues and blends the theoretical perspectives with practicalities of implementing an effective diabetic care programme; this course emphasises the effective use of multidisciplinary teams in problem solving and patient care.

Entry requirements

Honours degree or equivalent in a health or health-related discipline with an involvement with diabetes care; applicants who have not studied their degree in English require IELTS 6.5 with no individual component score below 6.0.

Course modules

Modules: evaluation of diabetes and developing practice; health psychology and diabetes; prevention and management of diabetes complications; management of diabetes services; research methods.

Assessment methods

Performance is assessed by systematic reviews, presentations and posters.

A small number of students may be part funded via the Student Award Agency for Scotland (SAAS).
