Community Health Nursing

This course is for qualified nurses working or wishing to work in the community; it aims to facilitate the development of community nurses who can critically analyse, reflect on and utilise evidence in taking forward advances in community health nursing practice that focuses on the needs of patients, carers and communities and clients; it enables students to critically evaluate and synthesis the evidence-base for community practice and to develop an innovative, reflective and pro-active approach to meeting the public health, nursing and social needs of individuals, families, groups and communities.

Entry requirements

Nurse registration; 2 years' professional experience preferred; degree and evidence of recent academic study.

Course modules

Modules include: contemporary nursing practice; leading in healthcare; research module; developing professional practice: work-based learning; advanced approaches to patient assessment; education in action; anticipatory care; independent study; palliative care; leading in healthcare; evidence-based health and social care; contemporary nursing practice; anticipatory care or advanced approaches to patient assessment; making judgements and decisions in practice; principles and practice of managing people with complex needs or principles and practice in the health and social care of individuals, children and families; community practitioner prescribing; practice consolidation.

Assessment methods

Essays; examinations; portfolio development; poster and seminar presentations.
