Internal Communications

This course is suitable for students who are experienced internal communication or public relations professionals looking to gain a specialist internal communication qualification to underpin skills with internal communication theory and analysis; it is also suitable for those who want to gain new skills or improve existing skills by learning about the strategic role of internal communications; and wish to establish themselves as an internal communication practitioner.

Entry requirements

The CIPR Advanced Certificate in Public Relations; or the CIPR Internal Communication Certificate plus 1 year's full-time employment in public relations (PR); or a post-graduate professional qualification in a related discipline (e.g. CIM diploma), plus 1 year's full-time employment (or equivalent part-time employment) in public relations; or a degree in business/marketing/management/communication studies, plus 1 year's full-time employment in PR; or any other UK degree plus 2 years full time employment in PR; or NCTJ Diploma plus either 5 years' journalism experience or 3 years' full time employment in PR; or 2 years' full-time employment in public relations plus the CAM Advanced Diploma in marketing communication; or LCCIEB 5 level 3 subjects, including PR, marketing, advertising, principles and practice of management, plus 2 years' experience in PR; or 4 years' full-time employment in public relations and 5 GCSE passes, 1 of which must be in English language; plus: those whose 1st language is not English must be able to demonstrate proficiency in the language (spoken and written): IELTS band score of 7.0 or above or equivalent.

Course modules

Analysing organisational culture; audit methodologies and application; change management theory; using research to inform and help develop internal communication strategies; moving from 1 way communications to engagement; psychology of communication; the role and function of intranets.

Assessment methods

Assessment is through completion of a research project of 6,000 words.
