Reconstructive Microsurgery

This programme will provide surgeons with comprehensive training in microsurgery and clinical management. It will improve confidence in microsurgery for both the trainee microsurgeon and the more experience surgeon. Modules will enable surgeons to develop a thorough knowledge of clinical anatomy and physiology relevant to microsurgery which can impact on operative decisions.

Entry requirements

Completion of medical degree(MBBS or MD) recognized by Queen Mary University of London. Completion of MRCS(member of the royal college of surgeons) exams or equivalent. English requirements should be any of the following: Grade B at A-Level; IELTS(overall score of 7, with 6.5 in the Writing and Speaking modules ); TOEFL Internet-Based Test: An overall score of 100, with 24 in Writing and Speaking.

Course modules

Principles of microsurgery (basic microsurgery course); advanced physiology (advanced microsurgery course); anatomy applied to reconstructive microsurgery (flap course in non-living models); evolution of reconstructive microsurgery (perforator flap course in living models); limb reconstruction (upper and lower limb); head and neck reconstruction; trunk and genitalia reconstruction; fellowship in reconstructive microsurgery; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Each module will have a weekly MQC assessment and a 1500 word essay to be submitted online. An OSCE (Objective structured Clinical Examination) will be held at the end of each academic year.
