Periodontology

The course includes all aspects of periodontal care including surgical therapy and exposure to implant dentistry; a major part of the course is clinical periodontal care of patients under direct supervision.

Entry requirements

A primary qualification in dental surgery and satisfactory completion of 2 years professional experience; students must be proficient in English.

Course modules

Modules include: The scientific basis of periodontal care; the relationship of other dental disciplines to periodontal care; a supervised project or investigation with a dissertation; diagnosis and treatment planning for patients with advanced periodontal problems; clinical treatment involving combined periodontal and other dental therapy.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by written, clinical, practical and oral examinations, including the presentation of patients for whom students have provided periodontal therapy integrated with other restorative dental therapy.
