International Relations

The MA in International Relations is concerned with analysing the key issues and concepts in world politics. The core course provides students with a comprehensive and sophisticated appreciation of the importance of theory to understanding international politics, providing a detailed knowledge of individual theories. There is an extensive list of module options designed to allow you to develop your expertise and apply theories and concepts within particular issue areas, including international security, international political economy, and the impact of the changes associated with globalization on the study of international relations. The programme provides you with a set of analytical skills andknowledge that will allow you to think, talk and write critically about contemporary international issues, as well as a firm foundation for further study.

Entry requirements

An upper 2nd Class Honours degree in politics or a related discipline.

Course modules

Compulsory modules: Theories of international relations; political analysis; globalisation and the international political economy of development; optional modules: international security: war and peace in a global context; approaches to political economy; international public policy: concepts and practice; themes and cases in us foreign policy; case studies in EU policy making; implementation and evaluation of public policy; Latin America in the modern world; international relations of the Middle East; EU as an international actor.

Assessment methods

Assessment is by a mix of coursework and a dissertation (12,000 words).
