Telecommunication Systems

This programme provides postgraduate training in the principles and applications of telecommunications, particularly in the way the subject is moving towards integrating voice and data applications with the Internet; this pathway puts emphasis on telecommunications technologies, especially mobile technologies; at the end of the programme students will be equipped with the skills needed for a wide range of jobs in the expanding telecommunications industry from designing infrastructure and services for the new 3G mobile networks to working on the expansion of the Internet with new technologies and protocols.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have a 2nd class degree in electronic engineering, computer science, mathematics, or a related discipline. Applicants with unrelated degrees will be considered if there is evidence of equivalent industrial experience.

Modules include: Java programming; advanced software technologies; digital broadcasting; internet infrastructure; security and authentication; network modelling and performance; satellite communications; multimedia systems; wireless networks; project

Assessment methods

Assessment is through a combination of coursework and written examinations; a satisfactory individual project must be completed.
