This programme trains students to undertake research and analysis in core areas of human communication, with particular emphasis on applying those skills in a range of professional contexts. Throughout the programme students will create and encounter real data and, in addition to classroom-based activities, fieldwork opportunities will be provided as a means for assembling fresh and original material for analysis.

Course modules

Modules include: language and the law; media discourses of crime and deviance; phonological concepts and methods; research in English language and linguistics 2; research methods in English language and linguistics 1; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Written and practical assignments.
