Heritage Science

This programme provides training, based on a blend of advanced surveying techniques, built and natural landscape heritage assessment, and legislative frameworks delivered in a 'hands on' environment with placements (internships), fieldwork and laboratory classes. 1 of the modules includes 1 5-day residential field course.

Entry requirements

Normally a 2.1 Honours degree or above or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in a relevant subject; applicants with relevant work experience will be considered on a case-by-case basis. PG Diploma (Heritage Science): Normally a high 2.2 Honours degree (57%) or above, or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in a relevant subject/discipline. PG Certificates: (Digital Documentation of Heritage); (Heritage Landscapes); (Stone-Built Heritage). Normally a high 2.2 Honours degree (57%) or above or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in Geography, Archaeology, Environmental Sciences or cognate discipline. Applicants with non-standard qualifications will be considered on an individual basis.Non-EEA nationals must satisfy the UK Border Agency (UKBA) immigration requirements for English language for visa purposes. Evidence of an IELTS* score of 6.5, with not less than 5.5 in any component, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University is required. *Taken within the last 2 years.

Course modules

Modules may include: Digital documentation of heritage; digital data capture in heritage science; GIS and geo-visualisation in heritage science; spatial technologies and heritage science (20 credits); stone built heritage; managing stone in the built environment; natural heritage environments; project design and practice (internship); heritage landscapes; historic landscapes and cultural heritage; dissertation.

Assessment methods

Assessment methods includes: Project reports; essays; seminar papers; presentations/posters; practical reports and assessed work in the laboratory.
