Sociology, Social Policy and Social Work
Our research is organised into 5 themes: Family policy and child welfare; identities, lifestyles and culture; life course research; social divisions and conflict; social issues and policy.
For PhD degrees candidates should have a 2.1 degree as a minimum and it is recommended a taught Masters degree; there may be a specific requirement (eg language skills; driving license; willingness to travel) associated with particular projects these are clearly identified where necessary. Students whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each individual component (or equivalent qualification).
