Process Engineering

Students acquire core postgraduate training in process engineering, and also have the opportunity to specialise in key areas of employment such as oil and gas, environmental engineering, bioengineering or pharmaceutical engineering. Students will also have the opportunity to develop problem-solving capabilities and generic skills aimed at preparing them to work in, and eventually to manage, multidisciplinary teams in industry.

Entry requirements

MSc: A 2.2 BSc/MSci Honours degree or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in an Engineering discipline, Chemistry, Physics or Material Science. PG Diploma: Normally a 2.2 BSc/MSci Honours degree or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in an Engineering discipline, Chemistry, Physics or Material Science. Applicants who do not hold a 2.2 Honours degree will be considered on a case-by-case basis. International students must be able to demonstrate their proficiency in English in order to benefit fully from their course of study or research. Non-EEA nationals must also satisfy UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) immigration requirements for English language for visa purposes. Evidence of an IELTS* score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in any component, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University is required. *Taken within the last 2 years.

Course modules

Analysis and computer simulation of chemical processes; advanced catalysis and reaction engineering; advanced oil and gas process engineering; biological and pharmaceutical process engineering; chemical reaction engineering; environmental engineering and safety management; management and administration; project and energy management.

Assessment methods

Written examinations; continuous assessment that includes project, case studies and coursework; MSc students must also submit a major dissertation for the research project.
