Photonic Integration and Advanced Data Storage
The research projects that will be available fall of thematic areas: Ultra-reliable semiconductor lasers operating in hostile environments; low cost planar lightwave circuit platforms, suitable for volume manufacture; novel nanoplasmonic devices capable of operating in extreme environments; advanced materials for magnetic recording; atomic scale analysis techniques.
Upper 2nd Class Honours degree in a relevant discipline; students whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with at least 5.5 in each individual component (or equivalent qualification).
Taught modules include: Basic Transmission electron microscopy; electronic devices; imaging and detectors; insights to industry; lasers and integrated optics; nanofabrication; innovation academy - creative thinking and innovation; innovation academy - opportunity generation and recognition; magnetic and electronic materials; plasmonic and optical materials; teamwork and collaboration skills in a virtual cross-geographic environment; research project. Year 2 commences the substantive Doctoral research project along with the completion of 3 of 4 taught modules in: Creative capital; leadership development; planning your new venture; protecting and exploiting your intellectual property; years 3 and 4 see the completion of the doctoral research project.
