Advanced Aerospace Engineering

This MSc is designed to augment and enhance the knowledge acquired at undergraduate level, through a combination of advanced scientific knowledge, interpersonal, research and management skills. The curriculum will improve employability through the development of the postgraduate skills required for a successful transition to industry or a research role in academia. This will be achieved through the delivery of Masters-level taught elements as well as the completion of novel, industrially-relevant research projects.

Entry requirements

Normally a 2.2 Honours degree or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University in Aerospace Engineering or other suitable engineering discipline, with substantial Mathematics and relevant engineering content acceptable to the School. A 2.1 Honours degree in Mathematics or Physics or equivalent qualification acceptable to the University will be considered. Applicants with non-standard qualifications will be considered on an individual basis. Evidence of an IELTS* score of 6.0, with not less than 5.5 in any component, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University is required. *Taken within the last 2 years.

Course modules

The degree will consist of 120 CATS points of modules from the list below, plus a dissertation (60 CATS points). Modules (10 CATS); aerodynamics; aviation maintenance management; composites; compressible flow and fluid machines; computational fluid dynamics; design and simulation integration; design for manufacture; digital manufacturing; energy recovery systems; finite element analysis; fracture mechanics; polymer product design and manufacturing; research methods; sustainable transportation systems. Modules (20 CATS): advanced internal combustion engines; composite structures; operations management in the new economy.

Assessment methods

Written examinations and/or continuous assessment in each taught module. Written thesis required for assessment of final MSc project.
