Spatial and Environmental Planning

Our research strengths centre on 2 objective areas: Interpreting the spatial planning implications of ethnic territoriality and community cohesion, connecting our analysis of contested places within the UK with international scholarship; and developing critical insights into the sustainable creation of place and the role of participatory governance in regulating the shaping of social and environmental space.

Entry requirements

For PhD degrees candidates should have a 2.1 degree as a minimum and it is recommended a taught Master's degree; there may be a specific requirement (e.g. language skills; driving license; willingness to travel) associated with particular projects these are clearly identified where necessary. Students whose 1st language is not English require an IELTS score of 6.5 overall, with at least 5.5 in each individual component (or equivalent qualification).
