Food Safety and Biotechnology

This programme focuses on applied aspects of advanced and emerging analytical technologies to address current issues in food safety, nutrition and food supply. It covers the entire food chain from farm to fork and places a strong emphasis on the link between improved food safety and nutrition and improved public health.

Entry requirements

Upper 2nd Class Honours degree or equivalent; a diploma or equivalent qualification may be considered; applicants whose 1st language is not English are required to have either obtained their degree in a majority English speaking country or to have achieved a suitable IELTS (score of 6.5 overall with at least 5.5 in each individual component) or TOEFL qualification.

Course modules

Research strengths are: Advanced and emerging technology platforms (biosensors and omics); animal food and feed safety; animal health and disease diagnostics; food and nutrition metabolomics; food and nutrition quality measurements; food chemistry; food safety detection methodology; food traceability and authenticity; immunodiagnostics for food contaminant and toxin detection; natural compounds and their health applications; novel and functional foods;therapeutic biomolecules.
