Main areas of research are vision: fundamental processes, cognitive psychology, perception, memory (especially individual differences and factors affecting efficiency), prospective cognitions, thinking, learning processes, reading, music, anxiety and cognition, word identification, attention, study skills; neuropsychology: developmental and acquired dyslexia, recovery of function after brain injury, language and cognition in dementia, developmental psychology, language development, reading development, memory development, early family relationships and impact on cognitions and mental health, use of computers with mentally handicapped; social psychology: social cognition, inter-group relations, social factors in depression and anxiety (including minority groups), religion, communication, family violence and sexual abuse; psychophysiology: stress, distress, health; psychology: psychosomatics, psychosocial factors in chronic disease, childhood asthma, management of diabetes, clinical trial design, outcome measurement, theoretical psychology; clinical psychology: cognitive aspects of anxiety and depression, dimensional structure and correlates of self-reported fears, body image in amputees, post-traumatic stress disorder, depressive cognitions.

Entry requirements

Applicants should have the equivalent of a 2.1 honours degree in Psychology, or a related discipline, (or equivalent).

Sponsorship information

After being offered a place students may be considered for a research council studentship, a college studentship, overseas research studentship, or occasionally some other form of funding.
