Sheffield Hallam University
Computer and Network Engineering
The programme will equip students with the skills they need to move into computer and network engineering. Students learn about hardware and software aspects of computer network technologies and examine their design, specification and integration in a range of contexts. Students gain the skills needed to move from a related discipline to computer and network engineering; they study the latest technologies used in modern-day computer networking systems; learn about providing the hardware and software infrastructure for a range of organisations.
Normally students need at least a 2nd Class Honours degree from a UK institution in a relevant engineering or science subject, or an equivalent qualification from the UK or overseas. Students may have other qualifications, for example a HND, backed up with relevant industrial experience. If 1st language is not English: IELTS score of 6.0 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent). Alternatively a Sheffield Hallam University pre-sessional English course will enable students to achieve an equivalent English level.
Communications and network modules include: communication engineering; communication media; communication networks; network applications. Computer engineering modules include: microprocessor engineering; object-oriented methods; operating systems; software engineering; optional modules include: applicable artificial intelligence; business process management; digital signal processing; advanced computer systems architectures. Plus students undertake a major project under the supervision of a tutor.
