Sheffield Hallam University
The course prepares students to work in the UK journalism industry, across a range of media platforms: newspapers; magazines; online; television; radio. Students learn the knowledge, skills and understanding necessary to produce high-quality, accurate and engaging news reports and features to a high standard. Students are also prepared for the National Council for the Training of Journalists (NCTJ) Diploma examinations.
Applicants should normally hold an Honours degree (2.2 or above) or equivalent in any subject and possess a good standard of written and spoken English. Overseas applicants from countries whose first language is not English must normally produce evidence of competence in English. An IELTS score of 7.0 with 5.5 in all skills (or equivalent) is the standard for non-native speakers of English. If your English language skill is currently below an IELTS score of 7.0 with a minimum of 5.5 in all skills we recommend you consider a Sheffield Hallam University Pre-sessional English course which will enable you to achieve an equivalent English level.
Semester 1: Writing for the media; media law and regulation 1; semester 1 optional modules; radio journalism; sports journalism 1; magazine journalism; semester 2 core modules; print and online reporting; media law and regulation 2; public affairs; plus options chosen from; TV journalism; sports journalism 2; semester 3; journalism project.
Assessment methods include coursework, critical evaluation, dissertation or project and a combination of practical and theoretical work.
